About Us

History

By Ross Hall - Owner / Manager

The first year was working on my own before taking on my first employee. The purchase of a Vacuum Forming machine was then made which opened up a new market.

Then 6 months later we bought out a competitor Framic Plastics that had been established for 20 years. This produced a big increase in the customer base and acquired some specialist equipment. The acquisition of this company allowed the company to grow much faster with bigger premises now being required.

We then moved in June 1997 to 14 Coleridge Street where the staff grew to six. A Computer Router was then bought which then gave the company something none of our competitors had. Since then Award Plastics has grown with sales nationwide and Australian clients.

In September 1998 we became Telarc registered for the Q-Base quality system which gave the company a formal operating system.
Award Plastics Ltd manufactures a wide range of Display items, Industrial Components and to the Hospitality trade to international companies, local companies and one-off retail sales.

In September 2001 the company moved to a new purpose built premises at 16 Buchan Street Sydenham which increased our profile and was 50% larger giving us more showroom space to display our every increasing range of products. It also gave the factory more space for better work areas and more machinery. Also we introduced a new sign department as we found this complimented our more diverse product range.

And now in February of 2005 we have moved to larger premises of double the size to able to install more machinery. The larger premises have enabled us to have a more efficient layout within the factory with separate departments and clear marked walkways between. Even though we have become much larger over the 10 years in business we still remaining very focused on customer services. In September 2005 we introduced the Lean Manufacturing System (the Toyota System) to increase our efficiency by streamlining our systems. This was needed because as the company had steadily grown over the past 12 years the internal systems had kept up. A production planning system was needed along with better management to staff communications. The Lean system really worked from day one when we had a big clean-up which lean said "First if you want to be a world class business you must look like one". And after just over a year the company runs so much better with less effort and stress. Production planning is easy and does not depend on any one person enabling clients to get there products on time every time.

In August 2007 we have just re-branded the company with a new name Award Plastics & Displays. This is to reflect that the company now is so much more than just a manufacturer of plastic items. With our in house design department we create displays to individual requirements using many materials not just plastics and together with new LED illumination. We have become a "One stop shop" for any type of display which we can make in our factory to tight delivery times to specific needs whether it is a small or large project.
